Laser scanning is a useful tool for historical preservation, architectural design, time lapse of construction, and building displacement. Laser scanning is an advanced method of collecting survey data. Laser scanning collects millions of data points (known as a Point Cloud) to providing greater detail. Some of the benefits are accurate location of the physical object scanned, digital preservation of current conditions of subject material, ability to survey features that otherwise could not be reached.
